Alien: Covenant Review

Oh boy people, its here and its very good for the fans of the classic xenomorph for sure. but for the fans of the very smart and thought provoking  sci fi/horror film Prometheus. its kind of frustrating.. because the idea that Prometheus proposed was fantastic and greatly more interesting than this new direction Ridley Scott is taking. because I would rather have gotten the original idea he had for the Prometheus sequels . because you can tell there is alot of fan service in here, and it feels out of place when its a sequel to a movie that made you think so much, and its a missed opportunity in my opinion.

now keeping this spoiler free I will not spoil details of course, but i want to warn the people with the idea of getting some closure on the Engineers and they’re purpose from the previous movie.. will be disappointed, there is basically nothing when it comes to that sadly. But now that its said, let me get to the GREAT parts of this FANTASTIC Alien movie. because if you only are looking for a gory and quite scary Alien movie that is more like the classic movies, then you will be very pleased.

PLOT:

The overall plot is ok for what it is, a space ship full of people for the spooky aliens to kill. but a couple crew members are pretty relatable and fun to follow. The best part about the movie is the background it gives us, the lore behind all of the crazy and messed up stuff we have been shown throughout the years in the alien universe! It was a great way to answer some of our questions about the creatures of the world and sort of build on it in small ways. I hope to see even more of this in the future because its still mysterious and it would be fun to explore what is set up.

GORY/SCARY:

What surprised me the most was how bloody and messed up it all is! like aliens are busting out of everything now, I  am very happy with how they handled the gore here. its not just in your face but it is also pretty intense and im pretty sure most people will leave still thinking about how gruesome some of the scenes are.  For me I was thinking the whole time about how creepy it was, they did a excellent job of making this a dark and twisted.

CONCLUSION:

I would for sure recommend this to any alien fan, like I said before.. I would have preferred the original idea for the sequels and it show more of the Engineers and become a deeper story within the alien universe, but there are enough surprises that keep you interested even though it is at the core another alien film. Unfortunately I cannot tell you what makes this movie so cool because it would be spoiling it. But trust me, fans of Alien will be defiantly happy with what is revealed. I sure was!!!! I hope in the next one we get more of what Ridley Scott originally wanted to make overall.

i’m going to give ALIEN: COVENANT a 8/10

pros: scary, fun, visually appealing, builds on the alien lore.
cons: wasted potential and giving into showing more xenomorphs because of whining fans instead of delivering a more meaningful and deeper story as Scott originally planned..

The Edge Of Seventeen

I am finally back after a long time away from this site, but I am now ready to continue talking about my passion. MOVIES!

So the edge of seventeen…. going into this I was only excited about one thing, Woody Harrelson… and just as he is in most films, he is fantastic. his character and Hailee Seinfeld (who plays the role of Nadine) works so well together and they do a good job of creating a bond that feels real between the two. now for the most part it is good, the character of Nadine is great and acts like a normal teen would in the situations she is put in which means more people can relate to her. it is a coming of age story about Nadine going through the hardships of being a teenager without a father and a mother who is going through some sort of midlife crisis. on top of that there is some sort of weird relationship with Nadine and her mom, her mom shows the brother much more love and attention. so with all that in mind Nadine tries to find her place, which made for a pretty good movie. the actors other than the ones mentioned were just meh honestly, no one else was likable in the movie, mostly just bland stereotypes such as jock teens who party OOOORRRRRR preppy girls who party.

Now i know this is a short review but I think this movie was just ok and can only recommend it if you like Woody Harrelson and are ok with a meh plot with a couple of good moments between 2 great actors. but there is not many things to say about this movie because there is not much to it, i am giving THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN A 6/10

but i will try to go more in depth in future reviews. just stick around and i will get better as i do more reviews. I hope to keep making content you can enjoy! so until next time, see ya!

Blair Witch (2016)

Directed by Adam Wingard, written by Simon Barrett. a Lionsgate production

Alright so it’s finally here, the true sequel to blair witch…. not that piece of crap book of shadows thing, that was just horrible compared to what it was trying to accomplish. but anyway, how was the true follow up to the classic blair witch project?? it was pretty good for the most part! i truly only have a few complaints.

plot: for blair witch project fans this will make you feel right at home, there is a ton to appreciate when it comes to how things in this movie relate to the original. the mysterious antagonist, “the blair witch” returns obviously but this time she is harassing the crew in much more intense manner. I dont want to spoil as much as possible so I will leave it to you to go read the summery of the plot to find out more. but dont worry if you are a fan of the original plot I am almost certain you will enjoy this entry.

characters : ok so when it comes to the acting I would say it was fine. they were pretty good at conveying the emotions people would actually have if they were face to face with a spooky forrest. plus there was a good amount of comic relief which was delightfully surprising!

sp00k factor: so the scares is what you wanna know about huh? well, they are here… well.. sometimes in the generic ways… as in jump scares…. unfortunately… BUUUUUUTTTTTT there is some really well timed scares here! also some really awesome eerie moments thankfully, because that is the reason I think the original is so great. but also the film tries to use too much of the same tacticts to scare us.. but it was kind of nostalgic in a cool way, but not surprising in the least.

So after all this waiting I would say I am satisfied with this movie, it gives some more insight into this weird story of the blair witch. It was very cool in the the style of filming from different perspectives with certain choices in how the crew would film the adventure through the nightmarish woods, as in there were some unique ways the film was shot to go against how traditional found footage movies are filmed. but it is relatively the same.. but for someone who wants to revisit the mysterious black woods.. you are in luck!

BLAIR WITCH   7/10

Lights Out

Ok, so i went to this movie with a already sour taste in my mouth.. because the spoiler filled trailer was everywhere, plus the whole thing in the dark thing was already stale from the trailer. But that being said, i did enjoy some parts of the movie! Like the buildup was very nice and paced well, but sadly fails in the end. The acting was just meh with a kind on cringy vibe. But overall a quick first review, im giving LIGHTS OUT a 5/10
